Pins and Trophy Rules

Revised by the Fishing Committee March 2007

General :

1: The fishing season runs from July 1st to June 30th .

2. To qualify for BBSFC awards, pins or trophies, anglers must be a member of good  standing and financial as per Club Rule 43 (a).

(a)  Classes are:  Open, Women, Junior (Under 16 on the day of catching fish).

3. Fish to be weighed shall be presented to an approved weigh master with a completed  weigh sheet (catch card).

4. All fish must be weighed green i.e. not gutted, gilled or mutilated, e.g. no clipping of fins or tails.

5. Anglers requiring a courtesy weigh must present two completed weigh sheets prior to weighing of fish. One sheet to be retained by the Club courtesy weighing the fish and the other signed and marked "copy" to be returned to the angler to forward to his / her parent Club weigh master.  (In the case of a tag and release, tag cards must be presented).

6. All fish are to be caught in accordance with IGFA, NZBGFC and Club rules. Members seeking records should familiarise themselves with these rules, in order to qualify for records, prior to weighing in.

7. Pinfish:

To qualify for Pins, the first fish of each species must be equal to or exceed the following weights and be caught and weighed within the area of Chart 54 (Bay Of Plenty):

(a)

All species of Marlin or Swordfish 90kg

90kg

(b)  Short billed Spearfish  10kg
(c) All recognised game species of Shark 40kg
(d) Tuna, (Yellow fin, Blue Fin, Big eye)  15kg
(e) Albacore     7kg
(f) Skipjack Tuna  5kg
(g) Yellow Tailed Kingfish 10kg
(h) Kahawai           3kg
(i) Snapper   7kg

8. Pin Awards     

(a)  Marlin: each fish must exceed the previous weight by 15kg.

(b) Short billed Spearfish:  fish must exceed the previous weight by 5kg.

(c) Game Shark:  a pin will be awarded to the angler for any species 40 kg and over. For the second pin, the fish must exceed 80kg and the previous pinfish weight by 5kg (two pins only).

(d)  All Tuna in 7 (d) must exceed the previous pin award by 5kg.

(e) Albacore  (one pin only)
(f) Skipjack    (one pin only)
(g) Yellowtail Kingfish  (one pin only)
(h) Kahawai   (one pin only)
(i) Snapper (one pin only)

(j) No angler shall be awarded more than one pin for any one species caught on one day

(k) No angler shall be awarded more than one pin per fish.

(l) A Gold pin shall be awarded for any, recognised, world record fish from the club

(m) A Silver pin with a Ruby eye shall be awarded for any recognised national record from the Club

(n) For the first and last game fish of the season awards, weights will meet or exceed pin weights (for open class only).

Further Club Rules :

9.  Trophies or shield shall be awarded for the heaviest of each species at the end of the season (Marlin must be 90kg minimum).

10. Fishing waters, other than pinfish, are defined as anywhere inside New Zealand waters.   (i.e. 200 miles).

11. Courtesy weighed fish for BBSFC - fish weighed by other clubs - are eligible for Trophies and pins.  NB:  Pinfish must be caught in local waters i.e. Chart 54.

12. All fish, except Marlin, shall have no minimum weight in order to be recorded for Club trophies  NB:  Fish must meet MAF minimum requirements.

13. Tag & Release:   Trophies to be awarded to the angler tagging or receiving the most points for game fish tagged and released by the BBSFC.

14. Club fishing may be varied in tournaments and will be stated prior to the Tournament.

15. Maximum line breaking strain shall not exceed 37kg.

16. A junior angler is deemed to be one under the age of 16 on the date of catching a qualifying fish.

17. Junior/Lady anglers will qualify for the heaviest fish - i.e. Open section.

18. Fish may be weighed for only one Club.

19. Boat Points:

(a) Boat points will be awarded to the heaviest three (3) fish of any species per boat per season.  An Angler, with three fish weighed, may increase his points only be weighing in a fish the weight of which exceeds the lightest of his previous weights.

(b) To qualify for "Boat Points" anglers must be the skipper's spouse, partner, or a dependent child.

(c) All other anglers on that boat must be full financial members of the BBSFC.

(d) Also please refer to Rule 2B re NZBGFC IGFA for any records.

20. A List of trophies with conditions and winners will be published annually by the BBSFC . 

The Club reserves the right to publish trophy and award results and photographs.

21. Weigh Hours:   Fish may be weighed during the hours that the Club is open, by arrangement with the BBSFC on 07 863 5006 or through the Waihi Beach Coastguard on VHF channel 85 or by special arrangement.
