BOATING SAFETY EQUIPMENT
THE SIX ESSENTIALS THAT EVERY BOAT SHOULD HAVE ON BOARD
- Personal flotation devices (Life Jackets)
- Anchor, chain & warp
- Signalling equipment (at least two items )
- Secondary propulsion (auxiliary engine, jury rig sail, oars-paddles, kedging)
- Bailer (bucket, sponge, pump or plastic bottle with bottom cut out)
- Fire extinguisher
And, in addition to the six essentials items that each boat must carry,
eight further items that help ensure safety are:
- First Aid Kit
- Spare engine parts
- Tools
- Rope
- Local Charts
- Compass
- Change of warm clothes
- Knife
